While most people tried to escape the outdoors and the cold during the July holidays, Saint Andrew’s junior school swimmer Roald Basson took on a massive programme at the Sasol National Winter Swimming Championships during the first week of the holiday.

He participated in 16 items and reached the final of every event he swam in. His industry went well rewarded.

In relay action, Roald received a full house of medals, winning gold in the men’s 16-and-under 4x50m freestyle ladder, silver in the 10-and-under 4×50 metre freestyle, and bronze in the 10-and-under 4x50m medley.

In individual competition, in the 10-and-under age group, Roald claimed silver in the 200m breaststroke, bronze for the 200m backstroke, and another bronze in the 50m freestyle.
