Before Chapel on Thursday morning, we recognised School Chaplain, Father Deon Lombard’s fine effort in his first-ever Comrades Marathon.

He did superbly in Sunday’s run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, finishing in the 6 000-range out of the over-19 000 runners that started the event, and crossing the finishing line in 10:20:37.

Head Boy Ethan Travers presented Father Deon with his Comrades’ bronze medal and a goodie bag that he received at the finish of the event to a round of warm applause from the boys. Father Deon says he will be back on the road after nine days, according to a formula for distance runners that says one should rest one day for every 10 kilometres run in a long-distance event!
