On Saturday, the Saint Andrew’s Chapel Choir, led by Master of the Choristers Clive Mott and Organist Xola Matete headed for Ficksburg, ahead of a Sunday morning service at All Saints Anglican Church. First, though, they made an important stop just outside of Bloemfontein.

At Die Groen Akker, the Choir made a surprise appearance at the wedding of Kyle Rafferty (class of 2009) to Deanne Nel, where they emerged after the vows were taken to sing the Irish Blessing.

After that it was back onto the bus and on to Ficksburg where the boys were met at the Church by Father Fred Dell, the Headmaster Chris Thomas and his wife Carol, Deputy Head Adrian Forster and School Chaplain Father Deon Lombard.

They familiarised themselves with the chapel and put in some practice for the Sunday service. Then, after a short drive to the Nebo Mountain Lodge, they were treated to a lip-smacking braai and a relaxed evening before heading off to bed.

On Sunday, Father Deon led the service and the Choir provided the sparkle with their fantastic singing. Afterwards, everyone was treated to a tasty tea and then the trip back to Bloemfontein commenced.

Our very grateful thanks go out to Adrian von Maltitz (class of 1978), Father Fred Dell, and Riette and Rick Dell for doing a great job of looking after the Saints’ visitors. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and look forward to making the trip to Ficksburg a regular one.

Finally, very well done to the Clive Mott, Xola Matete and the Saint Andrew’s Chapel Choir. You did the family of Saint Andrew’s proud.
