Saint Andrew’s hosted their annual Speech Day at the Doxa Deo Church on 13 October, with Uhuru Malebo, the Deputy Head Boy from 2006, serving as the guest speaker.

At the event, Calvin Deutschmann, from the class of 1994, received the Fiat Lux Award, for outstanding service to the school, for his massive contribution to the squash programme at Saints. (Calvin Deutschmann, pictured with Headmaster Chris Thomas)

In two decades at the helm, he has established Saint Andrew’s as one of the leading squash-playing schools in South Africa, producing numerous provincial and South African Schools’ players. He has also served as coach of the national junior team on a number of occasions.

Joan Abrahams, known as “Tannie Mossie”, was presented with a Saint Andrew’s Legacy Award for her service to the school, especially its history, which she has shared with many generations of Saint Andrew’s boys. (Joan Abrahams)

The top achiever in matric award went to Stehaan van Jaarsveld. The recent winner of the South African Maths Foundation’s Free State Olympiad, he has averaged over 96 percent ahead of the matric finals exams. (Stehaan van Jaarsveld with his family)
